Principal's Message

2009-2010

Welcome to John N. Given Public School, home of the Raiders. John N. Given offers an English program to students JK – grade eight and a French Immersion program to grade 7 & 8 students. We have a staff of 20 and serve 275 students from urban and rural areas.

John N. Given has two Nutritional Breaks, one at 10:55 – 11:35 a.m. and another at 1:15 – 1:55 p.m. Extra curricular activities including sports, arts and drama happen at our Nutritional Breaks, as well as after school and sometimes on weekends. “Thanks” is extended to the staff and volunteers who coach and guide our students. Various lessons such as commitment, teamwork and trying one’s best are learned through these programs.

Students at JNG are involved in a program known as TRIBES. This is a co-operative learning process that is based on four agreements; Attentive listening, Appreciation, Mutual Respect, and the Right to Pass. Following these agreements maintains a caring and respectful learning environment.

John N. Given has an active School Council which meets regularly and is open to the public. It sponsors and supports various activities to promote school spirit and contribute to the well being of the school community.

A school’s success depends on team work—specifically students, parents and staff working together. Communication, trust, and respect are essential. If there is a concern, the teacher should be informed first to resolve the issue; however, if it cannot be resolved at this level, then I should be contacted.

A monthly newsletter is sent home to each family to keep everyone informed. We appreciate your comments and want you to become involved in school events. When we all work together, great things happen!
